As a Systems Admin or a person in Operations working with Java can feel like looking at a black box. Gaining insights in to Java runtime can seem daunting - there is a lot of ground to cover. This presentation will review a range of attributes within the JVM and provide you with some tools to aide troubleshooting Java. Additionally, we will review tuning Java for performance as well as explain what stack traces are and learn how to understand them.

Bill Schwanitz has been working in Infrastructure and Operations over 15 years in roles ranging from System Administrator to Security Engineer. Bill has also built large scale Hadoop clusters for LivingSocial and Chemical Abastracts Service. Now, Bill is working as an Operations Engineer doing Puppet and things at CoverMyMeds.
